Menifee Celebrates Opening of $16 Million Freedom Bridge After Years of Planning

MENIFEE, CA — The Menifee Freedom Bridge, a long-awaited transportation improvement is now open in Menifee, providing motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians with a safer way to cross Salt Creek along Bradley Road.

City officials, community members, and elected representatives gathered October 13 to celebrate the completion of Freedom Bridge, a $16 million infrastructure project designed to eliminate a longstanding flooding problem.

The 365-foot bridge replaces a roadway crossing that was frequently closed during heavy rainfall, forcing motorists to find alternate routes.

Menifee Freedom Bridge Provides A Solution to Years of Flooding

For years, flooding along Salt Creek created transportation problems for residents traveling between northern and southern Menifee.

When storms sent water across Bradley Road, the roadway could become impassable, creating detours and potentially delaying emergency responders.

The new bridge carries traffic above the flood-prone crossing, providing a more dependable north-south connection during rainstorms.

According to the City of Menifee, the project was designed to improve roadway safety, maintain access during severe weather, and help emergency personnel reach residents more efficiently.

Improvements for Drivers, Cyclists, and Pedestrians

In addition to providing a more reliable roadway, the new bridge includes dedicated bicycle lanes and sidewalks.

The improvements are intended to accommodate multiple forms of transportation as Menifee continues to experience residential and commercial growth.

The bridge opened to traffic October 1, with the official dedication ceremony taking place nearly two weeks later.

Why Is It Called Freedom Bridge?

The crossing was originally known as the Bradley Road Bridge over Salt Creek.

The Menifee City Council renamed it Freedom Bridge following a recommendation from the city’s Veterans and Military Families Advisory Committee.

The name recognizes military service members, veterans, and their families.

Banners representing all six branches of the United States military have been installed along the bridge, providing a visible tribute to those who have served.

How Was the Project Funded?

The $16 million project was financed through a combination of federal, state, county, and local funding sources.

Contributors included federal funding programs, Riverside County Flood Control, California’s Local Transportation Climate Adaptation Program, and Menifee’s Quality of Life Measure.

The project represents a significant investment in local transportation infrastructure, particularly in addressing the challenges created by seasonal flooding.

A Long-Awaited Improvement

Planning for the Bradley Road crossing extended over more than a decade before construction began.

The project required extensive coordination, including engineering, utility relocation, and construction work in the environmentally sensitive Salt Creek area.

With the bridge now open, residents have a more dependable route through an area that previously experienced weather-related closures.

For Menifee, Freedom Bridge represents more than another road improvement. It addresses a longstanding safety concern while honoring the military community that helped inspire its name.
